The most sought after ocean activity in Homer is Halibut fishing. People travel from all over the world in hopes of landing the big one. Slippery Fish Adventures can accommodate. Halibut of all sizes are a blast to catch and the big ones are known to require some extra adrenaline.
According to Alaska Department of Fish and Game the average halibut caught in our area is 15lbs. The most common size caught on our boats are between 15 and 30lbs. Many times they are bigger between 30lbs and 80lbs. Sometimes they are between 80 and 150lbs. Occasionally they are 150 to 200lbs.
We can’t guarantee that everyone is going to go home with a “barn door”, but we can assure you that our captains and deckhands will work hard to put you on the fish and make your fishing experience the best they can.
Locals will tell you and we agree that the smaller ones are much tastier and a 15lb halibut will yield about 8lbs of fillet which bought at your local super market would be $160. But targeting the big ones and reeling in the halibut yourself is priceless.
